Ingredients
- Ground Beef (1 lb)
- Onion (1 small, finely chopped)
- Green Bell Pepper (1, finely chopped)
- Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
- Worcestershire Sauce (1 tbsp)
- Beef Broth (½ cup)
- Ketchup (2 tbsp)
- Dijon Mustard (1 tsp)
- Cornstarch Slurry (1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water)
- Salt & Pepper (to taste)
- Provolone Cheese (4 slices, or 1 cup shredded)
- Butter (1 tbsp, for toasting buns)
- Hamburger Buns (4, toasted)
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add chopped onions, green bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, ketchup, and Dijon mustard. Let simmer for 3-4 minutes.
Add the cornstarch slurry, stirring well until the sauce thickens and coats the beef. Season with salt and pepper.
Turn off the heat and place provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture. Cover with a lid for 1-2 minutes until melted. Alternatively, you can broil the mixture in the oven for a bubbly cheese topping.
Butter and toast the hamburger buns. Spoon the beef mixture onto each bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use Lean Beef: Reduces excess grease while keeping the meat juicy.
- Toast the Buns: This prevents them from getting soggy.
- Add Mushrooms: For an authentic Philly cheesesteak twist.
- Try a Different Cheese: Cheez Whiz or white American cheese also work great.
