Ingredients
- 1 lb steak (sirloin, flank, or skirt), thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (for thickening)
Instructions
Step 1: Marinate the Steak
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the sliced steak and toss to coat evenly. Set aside for 10 minutes while you prepare the vegetables.
Step 2: Stir-Fry the Vegetables
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
3. Add the onion and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until slightly softened but still crisp. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Cook the Steak
4. In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
5. Add the marinated steak and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until browned but not fully cooked through.
Step 4: Make the Sauce
6. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, beef broth, sesame oil (if using), and cornstarch slurry.
Step 5: Combine and Simmer
7. Return the cooked vegetables to the skillet with the steak.
8. Pour the sauce over the mixture and toss to combine.
9. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
10. Remove from heat and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
