Ingredients
For the Noodles:
- Noodles (8 oz, such as spaghetti, rice noodles, or lo mein)
- Sesame Oil (1 tbsp)
For the Mongolian Beef Sauce:
- Ground Beef (1 lb, lean)
- Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
- Ginger (1 tsp, minced)
- Soy Sauce (½ cup, low sodium)
- Brown Sugar (¼ cup)
- Beef Broth (½ cup)
- Hoisin Sauce (2 tbsp)
- Cornstarch (1 tbsp, mixed with 2 tbsp water)
- Red Pepper Flakes (½ tsp, optional for heat)
- Green Onions (¼ cup, chopped)
- Sesame Seeds (1 tbsp, for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Noodles
Cook the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and toss with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef
Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain excess grease if needed.
Step 3: Sauté Garlic and Ginger
Add the minced garlic and ginger to the beef. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Step 4: Make the Mongolian Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, and hoisin sauce. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the beef.
Step 5: Thicken the Sauce
Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water). Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Step 6: Toss Everything Together
Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat them in the sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the noodles to absorb the flavors.
Step 7: Garnish & Serve
Top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Use Lean Ground Beef – Less grease means a better sauce consistency.
- Don’t Overcook the Noodles – They should be firm enough to soak up the sauce.
- Want It Spicier? – Add more red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha.
- Gluten-Free? – Use tamari instead of soy sauce and swap the noodles for rice or gluten-free pasta.
