There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked cinnamon swirl bread filling your kitchen. This soft, fluffy loaf with a ribbon of sweet cinnamon sugar running through it is perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert. Whether you enjoy it plain, toasted with butter, or turned into French toast, this homemade bread is a must-try!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 ½ tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Make the Dough
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg.
3. Knead for 8–10 minutes (by hand or using a stand mixer with a dough hook) until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1½ hours until doubled in size.

Step 3: Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl
5. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar. Set aside.

Step 4: Roll & Fill the Dough
6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 9×18-inch rectangle.
7. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
8. Roll the dough tightly from the short end into a loaf shape.

Step 5: Second Rise
9. Place the rolled dough into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.

Step 6: Bake the Bread
10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
11. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
12. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
