Description
Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a sweet and fluffy breakfast treat that’s perfect for weekend mornings or special occasions. The soft, slightly sweet rolls soak up the cinnamon-spiced custard, turning golden brown on the outside while staying soft inside. Serve them with syrup, fresh fruit, or a dusting of powdered sugar for a delicious start to your day!
Ingredients
- Hawaiian Rolls (12-count pack, left whole or separated)
- Eggs (3 large)
- Milk (¾ cup)
- Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)
- Cinnamon (½ tsp)
- Nutmeg (¼ tsp, optional)
- Sugar (1 tbsp)
- Butter (2 tbsp, for cooking)
For Topping (Optional):
- Maple Syrup
- Powdered Sugar
- Fresh Berries
- Whipped Cream
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until smooth.
If keeping the rolls connected, dip them as a whole. Otherwise, separate them and dip individually. Let them soak for a few seconds to absorb the custard but not too long to become soggy.
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place the soaked rolls onto the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Plate the French toast, drizzle with syrup, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Add fresh berries or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use Day-Old Rolls: Slightly stale rolls absorb the custard better without getting too soggy.
- Cook on Medium Heat: Prevents burning while allowing the inside to cook through.
- Customize the Flavor: Add orange zest or coconut extract for a tropical twist.
