Ingredients

Scale

For the Fried Mushrooms:

  • 8 oz button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko works best for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Ranch Dip:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ranch Dip

  1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, dill, parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until smooth and creamy. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 2: Prep the Mushrooms
3. Pat the mushrooms dry with a paper towel. This helps the coating stick better.

Step 3: Set Up the Breading Station
4. In one bowl, place the flour.
5. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs.
6. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese (if using), garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Step 4: Bread the Mushrooms
7. Coat each mushroom in flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.

Step 5: Fry the Mushrooms
8. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).
9. Fry the mushrooms in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
10. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the mushrooms and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
11. Serve the fried mushrooms hot with the chilled ranch dip on the side.

Notes

  • Choose the Right Mushrooms: Button or cremini mushrooms work best for frying.
  • Dry the Mushrooms: Ensure they’re completely dry before breading to prevent sogginess.
  • Oil Temperature: Keep the oil between 350°F-375°F for perfect frying. Too hot, and they’ll burn; too cold, and they’ll absorb oil.
