  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce: Adds depth.
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup: Balances the savory flavors with a touch of sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional): For an extra layer of flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water: To thicken the gravy.
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional): Adds earthy flavor.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meatballs

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
  3. Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and set aside.

Step 2: Optional Step – Brown the Meatballs

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly brown the meatballs on all sides. This step adds flavor but can be skipped to save time.

Step 3: Assemble in the Slow Cooker

  1. Place the sliced mushrooms and onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Arrange the meatballs on top.

Step 4: Prepare the Gravy

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and Dijon mustard (if using).
  2. Pour the mixture over the meatballs.

Step 5: Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until the meatballs are tender and fully cooked.

Step 6: Thicken the Gravy

  1. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry.
  2. Stir it into the slow cooker and let it thicken.

Step 7: Serve

  • Serve the meatballs and gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t Overmix the Meatballs: Overmixing can make them tough. Handle the mixture gently.
