Ingredients
- 2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined (leave tails on for authenticity)
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into 1-inch pieces
- 1 lb baby potatoes (red or Yukon Gold)
- 4 ears of corn, cut into thirds
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 8 cups water
- 4 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning (or a similar seafood boil seasoning)
- 2 lemons, halved
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for extra richness)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Broth
- In a large stockpot, combine water, Old Bay seasoning, garlic, onion, bay leaves, and the halved lemons (squeeze the juice into the pot first). Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Step 2: Cook the Potatoes 2. Add the baby potatoes to the boiling broth. Cook for about 10-12 minutes or until just tender.
Step 3: Add Corn and Sausage 3. Toss in the corn and smoked sausage. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, ensuring the corn is tender and the sausage is heated through.
Step 4: Add the Shrimp 4. Add the shrimp to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them!
Step 5: Serve It Up 5. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes to a large serving platter or spread them out on a parchment-lined table for a traditional boil-style presentation. 6. Optional: Drizzle melted butter over the top for added richness. 7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges and crusty bread for dipping.
Notes
- Pick Fresh Shrimp: For the best flavor, use fresh shrimp or high-quality frozen shrimp that’s thawed before cooking.
- Don’t Overcook: Keep an eye on the shrimp, as they only take a couple of minutes to cook.
- Spice It Up: Add a dash of cayenne or hot sauce for an extra kick of heat.
