Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- All-purpose flour (2 cups) – The base for a soft and fluffy bread.
- Baking powder (1 ½ tsp) – Helps the bread rise beautifully.
- Baking soda (½ tsp) – Adds lightness to the texture.
- Salt (½ tsp) – Enhances all the flavors.
- Cinnamon (2 tsp) – The key to that warm, spiced flavor.
- Nutmeg (½ tsp) – A little extra spice for depth.
Wet Ingredients:
- Unsalted butter (½ cup, melted) – Adds richness and moisture.
- Brown sugar (¾ cup) – Gives a deep, caramel-like sweetness.
- Granulated sugar (¼ cup) – Balances the sweetness.
- Eggs (2 large) – Helps bind everything together.
- Vanilla extract (1 tsp) – Enhances the overall flavor.
- Plain yogurt or sour cream (½ cup) – Makes the bread extra moist.
Apples & Mix-ins:
- Apples (2 cups, peeled & chopped) – Any sweet variety like Honeycrisp or Fuji works well.
- Walnuts or pecans (½ cup, optional) – Adds a nice crunch.
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if using). Be careful not to overmix!
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature!
Notes
- Use Fresh Apples – The juicier the apple, the moister the bread.
- Don’t Overmix – Stir just until the ingredients are combined to keep the texture light.
- Enhance the Flavor – Add a cinnamon-sugar topping before baking for a sweet crunch.
- Store Properly – Wrap in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container to keep it fresh for days.
