Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken: Lean and flavorful for a perfect Sloppy Joe base.
- 1 small onion, finely chopped: Adds sweetness and texture.
- 2 cloves garlic, minced: For a classic Italian flavor.
- 1 cup marinara sauce: Your favorite store-bought or homemade variety.
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning: To enhance the overall flavor.
- Salt and pepper, to taste: For seasoning.
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese: Melty and delicious.
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese: For that signature parmesan taste.
- 4–6 hamburger buns or sandwich rolls: Soft and sturdy to hold all the goodness.
- 2 tablespoons olive oil: For cooking.
- Fresh basil leaves (optional): For garnish.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Chicken
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and soft, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground chicken, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
4. Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
5. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Step 3: Add the Cheese
6. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the mixture. Stir gently until the cheese is melted and incorporated into the sauce.
Step 4: Assemble the Sloppy Joes
7. Toast the buns lightly if desired.
8. Spoon the chicken mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun.
9. Top with fresh basil leaves for garnish, then close the sandwich with the top bun.
Notes
- Use Fresh Cheese: Freshly shredded mozzarella melts better and tastes creamier.
- Toast the Buns: Lightly toasting the buns helps prevent them from getting soggy.
