- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, provolone, or Swiss are great choices)
- Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, red onion, or fresh spinach
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Bagels
- Preheat your oven or broiler to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice the bagels in half and toast them lightly.
Step 2: Make the Tuna Salad
- In a mixing bowl, combine the tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Step 3: Assemble the Bagels
- Spread the mashed avocado evenly over each bagel half.
- Top the avocado with a generous scoop of the tuna salad.
- Add a slice of cheese on top of each tuna-covered bagel half.
- (Optional) Layer on additional toppings like sliced tomatoes, red onion, or spinach for extra flavor and texture.
Step 4: Melt the Cheese
- Place the assembled bagels on a baking sheet.
- Bake or broil for 3-5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Serve warm with a side of chips, a fresh salad, or some soup.
Notes
- Choose Ripe Avocado: For the best texture and flavor, use an avocado that’s soft but not mushy.
- Experiment with Cheese: Try pepper jack for a spicy kick or mozzarella for a milder taste.
- Customize the Tuna Salad: Add chopped celery, dill pickles, or fresh herbs for added crunch and flavor.
- Use Fresh Bagels: A fresh, chewy bagel makes all the difference in this recipe!
