Ingredients
- Apples (2 large, firm varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) – Perfect for frying.
- All-Purpose Flour (½ cup) – Helps create a crispy coating.
- Cornstarch (¼ cup) – Adds extra crunch.
- Granulated Sugar (2 tbsp) – For a touch of sweetness.
- Ground Cinnamon (1 tsp) – Adds warm spice.
- Milk or Buttermilk (½ cup) – Helps bind the coating.
- Vegetable Oil (for frying) – Use a neutral oil like canola or sunflower.
- Powdered Sugar (for dusting, optional) – Adds a sweet finishing touch.
For the Dipping Sauce (Optional)
- Caramel Sauce – Classic and delicious!
- Vanilla Yogurt or Whipped Cream – Light and creamy.
Instructions
1. Prep the Apples
Wash, core, and slice apples into thin fry-like strips. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
2. Make the Coating
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, and cinnamon.
3. Dip & Coat
Dip each apple slice into the milk (or buttermilk), then dredge in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
4. Heat the Oil
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat (around 350°F/175°C).
5. Fry Until Golden
Carefully place the coated apple fries in the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
6. Dust & Serve
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately with caramel or your favorite dipping sauce!
Notes
- Use firm apples: They hold their shape best.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan: Fry in small batches for even crispiness.
- For extra crunch: Double coat by repeating the flour mixture step.
